Biography

Professor Cocozza is an attorney with a JD from Fordham University School of Law and an LL.M. in taxation from New York University School of Law and is licensed to practice law in both New Jersey and New York. He has a BS in accounting from Fordham University Gabelli School of Business and is a licensed CPA in Pennsylvania. 

He has been a DeSales University faculty member for over 25 years, and he is the Inaugural Dean of the Waterbury Reilly School of Business.  He has led the DeSales business program for over 18 years.  He teaches Federal Income Taxation, Regulation and The Legal Environment of Business Law at the undergraduate level. He teaches Advanced Law and Taxation in the MBA program. He has several years of industry experience in taxation at Deloitte, LLP and the Lexis Publishing Group.

He has published papers in the areas of taxation and retirement planning in AmericaThe Pennsylvania CPA Journal, and The Journal of Financial Planning. He was an academic editor of the Becker CPA Review Regulation textbook for 10 years where he edited content material regarding individual, corporate, partnership, trust, and estate taxation. He has presented numerous papers in taxation.  

Professor Cocozza is the co-mentor of the Accounting and Finance Club and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. During the past 25 years, the Accounting and Finance Club has taken several educational trips to business-related organizations in New York City, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Boston and Chicago. He has also run international study trips for undergraduate and graduate students to Paris, Lyon, Annecy, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Zurich, Munich, Salzburg, Vienna, Prague, Budapest, Krakow, Amsterdam, Brussels and Lima.

The VITA Program has been recognized by the IRS and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the volunteer work it has done; and, the program has been featured in The Morning Call, on Service Electric News, on radio station WAEB, and on Lehigh Valley PBS. During the past 25 years, business students have completed over 6,000 tax returns for more than 3,000 Lehigh Valley taxpayers. These services have resulted in taxpayer compliance savings of over $300,000 and have provided students with invaluable life experience.

Professor Cocozza is happily married to his wife, Danielle, and they have three wonderful children, Lauren, Kristen, and Michael.
